Quonops

Quonops Online Services is the first user-friendly and all-inclusive underwater sound mapping service. It provides a fully comprehensive solution to assess distributions of ocean sound, compliance with regulation and potential impacts on marine life. QOS can even be combined with one or several buoys to analyse in-situ measured data.

Springing form military research, Quonops© is one of the most validated modelling platforms in the world, among military and civilian ones, with around 20,000 days of in situ measurement for calibration. It’s also one of the most used in the world with more than 2 million maps produced.

Protected by an international patent, it has been used since 2010 by major public and private players for research, knowledge development, regulation-making and environmental impact studies in the World.

This in-house developed online platform allows several modelling configurations :

• It models natural ambient noise taking into account environmental parameters (bathymetry, sediments, currents, traffic, etc.)
• It predicts anthropogenic noise level of offshore work (drilling, vibrojetting, hammering, etc) and the mitigation solutions (bubble curtains, etc)
• It compares these noise levels with marine mammals’ tolerance thresholds
• It supports environmental impact assessments
• It’s a tool for decision-making, helping to choose tools to be used / mitigation solutions to be implemented.
