Research & Innovation

In order to continually adapt to our clients’ needs and challenges, we pursue a proactive R&D policy, with dedicated resources within our Innovation Department. Quiet-Oceans therefore takes part in research projects and European initiatives, develops AI-based solutions and regularly contributes to scientific publications.

Quiet-Oceans has contributed to just under a hundred scientific publications ; a list of these can be provided on request.

Some of the projects Quiet-Oceans have been part of

LIFE SeaDetect aims to reduce collisions between vessels and large whales through automated detection and early warning systems. Quiet-Oceans contributes to the project by developing and demonstrating a passive acoustic detection system capable of detecting whales such as fin whales and sperm whales in real time, helping vessels adapt their routes and reduce collision risks.

SEAMPHONI, a Horizon Europe project, aims to improve the monitoring and management of offshore Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) through innovative technologies and an Intelligent Marine Digital Twin. Quiet-Oceans contributes by developing the MPA Acoustic Atlas, providing acoustic mapping and characterisation of underwater soundscapes to better understand and monitor anthropogenic pressures in protected marine areas.

SATURN is a four-year EU-funded research project focused on understanding the sources and impacts of underwater noise from shipping and other vessels, while developing solutions to reduce its effects on marine ecosystems. Quiet-Oceans contributes by developing OceanPlanner, a Marine Spatial Planning tool dedicated to underwater noise, vessel collisions and CO₂ emissions, enabling stakeholders to assess the effectiveness and costs of potential regional regulations.

LIFE PIAQUO aims to reduce the impact of maritime traffic on the marine environment by better understanding and managing underwater radiated noise from vessels. Quiet-Oceans contributes through its expertise in acoustic measurements, modelling and decision-support tools, helping to characterise vessel noise emissions and assess their environmental impact.
